What's in a country?

This was done with a Year 3 class, anything above that would be easier. In Photoshop load an outline of your country with a transparent centre. Add pictures to create a collage, we used Olympic athletes but it could be anything. The images can be simply tiled or blended for a more artistic effect. When the image is complete lift the country layer to the top to mask the edges of the images. - Ed

Early Explorers

This was done with a year 4 class. The class was divided into groups of 3-4 and each selected an early sea explorer from a list. They researched the explorer in the usual way and were then required to submit a script for a documentary. Using a narrator they then filmed a re-enactment of the important stages of that explorers life. - Ed

First Fleet

Also with Year 4 and similar to the explorer project above. This time each group was allocated a particular scene: the crime, the trial, life on a hulk, the long voyage to Australia and life in a new land. Each group filmed and edited their own video segment. They were then all joined together to show the complete life of a First Fleet convict. - Ed

Biography

Year 6 were examining the biography genre. We wanted someone interesting who they knew a lot about, so we decided to use TV characters. Using Inspiration the students pasted a image from a Google image search then brainstormed whatever they knew about that character using the rapid fire function. They then had to categorise and organise their information. In the end they seemed to know more about a fictional character than real people. - Ed

My Name

A kindergarten project with Kid Pix. Using cut outs of their own head they used the drawing tools to add a body and a background scene using texture paint tools. They then added their name using the animated letters. When they pressed play they were very excited. We then saved all their work into a Slide Show. - Ed

Google Earth

This was done with year 3 and 4. Students used Google Earth to located places they were familiar with like the school and town they live in. They then took a screen shot of this and placed it in a powerpoint slide. Students then found different places they wanted to go, both in Australia and the world. They took screen shots of the place, pasted it into powerpoint and then wrote a short sentence or two on why they would want to go there. Students thoroughly enjoyed this activity. - Shane, Dubbo NSW
